Trail Day 2

Trail Day 2: Santa ClausDry Camp
01

What to expect

First real climbing day. Santa Claus is a dry camp — no services. Plan your water carry before you leave the last reliable source.

Slow and steady is the goal today. Expect lots of caterpillar climbs as we continue acclimating to altitude.

  • Carry enough water for tonight and tomorrow morning at minimum.
  • Day 2 is when the crew starts to figure itself out. Keep your attitude steady — it gets better from here.

Crew leader notes

Watch for

  • Dry camp water planning failure — confirm plan before leaving last reliable source
  • Altitude and pack fatigue hitting harder than expected
  • Watch for start of Storming behavior.

Crew leader focus

This is a big climbing day. Watch the pace and use the caterpillar to keep the crew together and moving as a unit. Confirm water before Santa Claus. Use the second Ranger night to tighten systems. Tomorrow we launch without our ranger.
